Rustic Winter Woodland Christmas Tree Ideas

These festive woodland Christmas tree ideas are inspired by the beauty and simplicity of the quiet winter woods. The tree-topper decorations draw the eye up to the Christmas tree and command all the attention! It couldn’t be easier to put this natural rustic yet elegant look together.

This simple look creates a timeless winter woodland display that never goes out of style…

I was looking for something simple and beautiful that would come together easily. I’m always drawn to that natural rustic look, so I went with berries, sparkly pinecones, and (towards the tree top) lots of sparkling bare branches that really hint at that woodsy style.

Here are a few rustic winter woodland Christmas tree ideas that will really help you capture the allure of the winter woods at home!

Style a festive woodLand Christmas tree Topper

I am usually able to style this woodland Christmas tree look using a combination of things that don’t really necessarily include traditional round ornaments (although you can certainly incorporate those for even more pizzaz!). I’ll usually head down to the hardware store and look for ornamental bouquets with dried glittery winter branches, pinecones, little glittery holiday balls… Everything will usually be mounted onto a stick or pick for easy positioning on the Christmas tree.

Create a woodland christmas Tree Topper Using Winter Branches

This makes it super easy to poke right into the top of my tree and create a beautiful eye-catching tree-topper. It’s my favorite part of the tree-decorating process and I love styling it every year… It’s super easy to put together and all you have to do is start slipping things in and adding more and more until slowly you have a beautiful little holiday bouquet sort of blooming out of the top of the tree!

I like to start by adding the sparkly plain winter branches first.

Trim or shorten the stems on the winter branches as you see fit so that they are not poking so deep into the tree and add them in as desired!

Accent The Top of your Rustic Woodland Christmas Tree

Once I add the plain wood branches, I’ll complement them with with little ornamental balls, pinecones, decorative flowers, and berries for color! What you want to do is ultimately create a focal point that draws the eye to the top of the tree…hence: tree topper!

Add Red Christmas Berry or Holly Decorations

Use snowy/frosted berries to help add pop of texture and color to your festive rustic woods Christmas tree!

Use little dried branches with bold red color! The one pictured above is commonly seen in decorative dried branch bouquets throughout the season…

Use big bold shiny branches of decorative berries… When shopping for these accents, buy more than you might use at the top of the tree.

You can always use the rest of the berries to tuck in all throughout the tree to give the branches length and color…

To achieve this focal point at the top of the tree, I learned that I had to keep the placement of my items nice and tight. Don’t spread the picks, berries or branches too far apart or it will look too spread out.

If you keep the arrangement close and tight at the top of the tree, it will have a more grand effect. It will have more pop and style. It will also look amazing from every angle!

I’ll show pictures here with the lights on and off but it looks so beautiful, festive, and elegant! No matter how you choose to display your accents and elements, I promise you, you’ll find so much joy in decorating the top of your tree.. You’ll find the perfect way to give it that extra special touch that only you can add to the table.

As you can see, the rest of the tree comes together very easily… The next thing to do is add some holiday ribbon or burlap ribbon to the woodland Christmas tree for another beautiful touch… You can use your favorite ribbon, but I find that things like pretty red holiday plaid, the buffalo plaid, or plain burlap usually play really nicely for rustic, woodsy, cabin Christmas trees like this. I used plain burlap and it worked great…

Add Some Ribbon or Burlap To your woodland Christmas Tree

For the first time this year, I am using an artificial pre-lit Christmas tree with led fairy-type warm lights. I found that this made the decorating process pretty simple since I didn’t have to deal with any lighting. Just plug and play!

Since the artificial tree branches are all made with moveable wire, I was able to position the ribbon all over the tree cinching it in place with the wire branches in different places. I just pinched the ribbon where I wanted by folding a wire branch around it to hold it in place. Pretty simple.

After that, it’s a pretty and fun process! I tucked in branches with berries and wired ornaments and poinsettias throughout the tree!

It’s just not Christmas without that touch of plaid! The buffalo plaid pattern really adds to that log cabin Christmas tree look!

I dotted with different pinecone ornaments and done!!

Decorate Your Winter Woods Christmas Tree with Pinecones

As you can see, when it all comes together it is so simple yet so beautiful…

I must say that I LOVE this style of natural, rustic, woodland Christmas tree. I think nature-inspired rustic decor is truly stunning! Any single moment I can put together a style that reflects that feel, I just fall in love with it. In the process, I end up having so much fun!

The only extra tip I would add, is to make sure you pick up enough of everything you might need. Consider the size of your tree when contemplating the quantities at the store.

I was able to find a lot of these woodsy berries and poinsettias and pinecones at Hobby Lobby, but my local hardware store had what I really needed for my tree topper. Those bouquets with the sparkly dried winter branches are things that I usually pick up at Menards or Home Depot.

If you have items left over, use them in a holiday planter outdoors or tuck them in as accents in a holiday wreath.
