Whether you’re styling up a table with place settings for a romantic dinner, a family dinner, or simply  a casual dinner with some friends, these easy Valentine’s Day decorations can be used to jazz up the center of the table in just minutes.

It’s so much fun to decorate with bold pops of red color that command attention and call the eye over to a simple yet pretty table!  It’s nice to have table runners for this reason because they can help create a sort of base layer that we can build our look upon.

Yes! You can Use an Oversized Scarf as a table runner…

I actually didn’t have a simple red table runner that I could use to style this look so I grabbed a long oversized red knit scarf and placed it down the center of the table. The knit fabric actually added a rather romantic feel while keeping the look colorful and cozy.

Add a Tray to Frame a Centerpiece

If you don’t have something of a similar texture, a red gauze cheesecloth table runner works beautifully as well. To add a little contrast, I brought in a long silver tray. This basically acts as a base that might hold some simple centerpieces.

To create simple floral centerpieces to add to the center silver tray, I grabbed mason jars. I tied the mason jars at the top with a bit of red ribbon around the rim.  Next, I added simple red fresh flowers. You can go to the florist if desired, but for a simple project like this, you could easily get fresh flowers from the fresh cut flower section of your local grocery store.

Fresh Flowers add elegance, color, and texture

I added just a few bright red carnations to each jar.  Use your favorite bold red flower such as red roses, red daisies, red alstroemeria, or red poppy flower. You can even use red chrysanthemums.  Crisp white flowers could be used as well or even blended in with the red ones.  This might be a nice touch if using white plates for your place settings.

If fresh red flowers aren’t available, use artificial red flowers. Fill each mason jar with a vase filler like seaglass stones or decorative sand.

Add Mason Jars with Flower arrangements in red

To really bring out the flower arrangement and highlight each bottle, I added a few drops of red food coloring to each jar.  It adds another layer of red to our table’s color palette. It also really highlights that bold red color scheme with just that added small detail. It’s pretty amazing what a few simple mason jars and a bit of red ribbon can do for a table!

Add Candles To your Valentine’s Day Tablescape for ambiance and warmth

To finish, you might add some candles for warmth and ambiance.  I added small votive candles that I set up in red mercury glass candle holders.   It adds that simple touch of warmth while picking up those red tones again.

To keep things rustic and cozy, I framed the silver centerpiece tray with a few red glitter winter branches.  It adds a very natural feel to the dinner table and I just love decorating with elements inspired by nature.

keep these valentine’s day table ideas rustic and cozy by adding natural decor elements

It always helps to bring that cozy rustic vibe back to the dining table.  Whether I’m decorating for Easter, Christmas, or setting up a Valentine’s table, I think it’s so charming to add that natural touch…  Just a few winter branches help to get that natural look flowing back through the table.

If you’re adding plate settings, I would recommend setting up white tableware using simple white plates. You could then add red linen napkins to contrast the plain white plates. Tie them with a bit of simple twine or jute string.  Punch a whole in the place cards (if using) and slip them onto the string you use to tie the napkin for a more personal finishing touch.

Keep place settings simple with white

Alternatively, you can use crisp white napkins. You could accent them with red napkin rings for a pop of color on the plate.

Red is such a fun color to play with. You can continue to give these beautiful table settings your own unique and personal touches as you put them together.

The look doesn’t have to be complicated in order to achieve a beautifully decorated table for that special dinner.  You can keep things easy and simple while still creating an elegant atmosphere with simple elements.

Just a few items help to bring a beautiful touch and charming character to the dining room table. You can style this in minutes so you can get back to enjoying your time and popping some good bubbly!
