A black raven perched on a pillar commands attention as antique tapers and dark berry garlands flow throughout the table, setting the tone for a spooky scene.

In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore;

Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—

Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
To get this dark, yet rustic and elegant feel I layered three different runners to create a mix of textures and fabrics.
choose runner or layer fabrics to create one
A curious mix of sparkle, embroidery, and burlap adds drama and character to a plain wood table. This creates the perfect canvas to set up our spooky black raven Halloween table.
add twisting vines, berries, or branches
We can now layer the runner with twisty vines and dark berries to keep the eerie scene going. It sets the perfect haunting mood for our Raven friend… You can also see that he makes an appearance on my console table decor for this fun and festive DIY Halloween banner decoration!
I like to open up the garland spread it out to make it seem like it’s winding and flowing throughout the runners and the table. I like working with this type of garland because it’s usually wired for easy shaping and styling on the table.
It’s usually called a pip berry garland. If you’re looking for something like this to dot your table, this is a perfect one. It’s actually a mix of deep amber, black, and brown berries with other accents mixed in. Perfect for fall and perfect to recreate this antique look…
add pumpkins in dark or neutral colors
Next, we can dot the garland with with some wooden pumpkins to keep that rustic vintage halloween vibe. If you want to amp up the look of the pumpkins a bit, you could easily tie some twine or sheer ribbon around their stems in dark matching colors to make them stand out even more.
add a vintage vibe with antique tapers
We can keep adding accents and warmth with my favorite old-fashioned touch, tapers! I include candles in almost every decor-inspired post I do because it just wouldn’t be me without it! This warm harvest Thanksgiving look is just one example!
I love the look of worn, drippy candles in old bronze tapers or even these stunning mercury glass tapers. I actually own the set I just linked. You can see how beautiful they look dotting this spooky halloween table with a mix of leafy greens, gauzy black cloth, and skulls.
We’ve set the eerie yet elegant scene for our spooky black raven Halloween table! Time to sit down and enjoy a frightfully festive evening dinner with our raven friend…
tie some Black ribbon on Your wine glasses
For the place setting, I just took black chargers and layered white plates on top along with rolled up napkins in black. I took a little sheer organza ribbon and tied bows on the stems of some of wine glasses to dress them up for the evening.
Just wrap your napkins with a little twine to match the table and you’ll have a simple but beautiful place setting that speaks to the theme happening at the rest of the table.
Another great idea would be to tuck in a dark color feather beneath the bow… This would be a fun nod to the raven at the table. I happened to find this statuesque raven bird at Home Goods, but feathered black ravens like these can easily work just as well! They’ll have a true feel to them with the movement in their pose and black feathers… The wired feet can be attached to any surface to create a dramatic effect.
And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
—Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
I hope this spooky black raven Halloween table decor (inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s famed poem) inspires you to create your own cool vintage Halloween table. Be sure to dot it with items that give it your very own signature and taste… Cheers to keeping the happy hauntings alive!
