An Easy Thanksgiving Cocktail with Bourbon and Eggnog
The super simple secret is the star of the show: ready-made pumpkin spice egg nog.
shortcut: ready made Pumpkin spice eggnog
Right around this time in the fall, my local grocery store carries this seasonal pumpkin spice egg nog by Kemps. Taking a clue from the “coffeehouse” logo on the carton, I splashed in some chilled coffee, shook it up, and poured over ice.
It was love at first sip. Much like peanut butter and jelly, coffee and egg nog are soooo perfect together. Probably why we see all those delicious egg nog lattes popping up closer to Christmas time! Coffee and pumpkin spice egg nog? Heaven. So, as you can imagine, a coffee and eggnog bourbon cocktail was born soon after!
a splash of coffee adds a pick-me-up to our cocktail
I find that the addition of chilled coffee gives this easy eggnog bourbon drink an added layer of flavor that just complements the egg nog really well. You could certainly start off with a homemade recipe for pumpkin spice egg nog, but I find this shortcut works really well and keeps it easy and delicious.
Additionally, the added splash of bourbon blends in with the eggnog coffee cocktail really well.
What is The Best Bourbon For Eggnog?
Bourbons usually boast notes of sweet dried fruit, caramels, vanilla, and spice as well as some woodsy notes such as oak. If you’re looking for easy-drinking bourbon for eggnog cocktails just like this one, consider smooth bourbons with crowd-pleasing flavor profiles that most people tend to enjoy. Some of my favorites include…
Maker’s Mark Bourbon
With a buttery taste and notes of cinnamon and vanilla, this is an easy bourbon to pair with our creamy holiday cocktail. It would even fit in nicely with the coffee notes.
Woodford Reserve Bourbon
This bourbon is heavier on the spice notes which round out with notes of charred oak and nuttiness from toffee. It would make a lovely match with the pumpkin spice and cinnamon happening in a creamy eggnog cocktail. Don’t be too shy to try it in a peach tea cocktail over the summer either!
Knob Creek Bourbon
This bourbon smiles back with big notes of sweet buttery corn. Nutty notes of pistachio and almond swirl around giving way to an almost honey-like taste in the background as well. Pair this with any eggnog and you’ll have an instant holiday favorite.
Elijah Craig Bourbon
This small-batch bourbon boasts notes of lovely caramel that’s framed with hints of orange zest along with woodsy spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. A fitting flavor-profile to sip neat or on the rocks. It certainly makes an easy choice to complement your favorite holiday nog!
Bulleit Bourbon
Comforting notes of nutty and buttery toffee, warm winter spices, and oak make this smooth bourbon an easy choice for splashing in with creamy cocktails as well as a variety of holiday cocktails.
Four Roses Bourbon
Hints of sweet dried fruit, caramel, oak and dark honey layer up with notes of some fresh fruit too. Notes of apple and pear with quiet hints of orange citrus poke through for a delicious smooth finish. A creamy smell on the nose is also noted for a lot of people. This is one of my favorite bourbons for everyday cocktails year-round (as you might notice with this blueberry mint julep) and it’s perfect for splashing in with festive holiday cocktails too!
Buffalo Trace Bourbon
Buttery pastry crust, brown sugar, spiced honey, and molasses notes make this easy-drinking bourbon another great choice for a festive and creamy eggnog bourbon cocktail.
I know some people that like to add rum for a lot of the same reasons many people like using bourbon: warm, sweet, and spicy flavors! I actually love the warming vanilla flavors of rum in this fall fireside spiced hot tea drink. If you don’t have bourbon available, rum is the next best choice for this easy Thanksgiving cocktail with eggnog and bourbon.
if you can’t find flavored nog…
If you can’t find this seasonal variety of pumpkin spiced egg nog at your local store, regular creamy holiday eggnog will do just as deliciously well. I would just hit it with a couple pinches of pumpkin spice blend seasoning and stir it in. This will give you the warmth of pumpkin spice while still blending in nicely with the coffee and bourbon flavors.
You could shake up this spiked bourbon egg nog and pour it over fresh ice in a rocks glass or strain it into a cinnamon-dusted martini glass and treat it with the same whipped cream finish… I promise you can do no wrong either way…
a festive thanksgiving or Christmas Cocktail
The super simple ease of tossing together three ingredients is just a no-brainer for a quick and easy creamy drink that you can serve as a festive Thanksgiving cocktail or Christmas after-dinner cocktail.

In a cocktail shaker with a cap or lid, pour in your eggnog.
Splash in the coffee and bourbon.
Fill the rest of the way with ice and close it up with a lid. Now shake everything together until frothy and combined.
Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice, and garnish with a generous twirl of whipped cream on top. Finish with a dusting of cinnamon and enjoy.
You could also strain it directly into a martini glass as a creamy dessert type martini. Garnish the same way.
It is so simple, and so delicious. Something about the creamy silky egg nog punched up with a little coffee flavor makes it hard to put down… It’s a tasty and festive little sweet treat in a glass.
