Crunchy Grilled Asparagus Adds a Pop of Green to These Easy Grilled Tilapia Fillets
The asparagus grills up as quickly as the fish since it’s thin and slender. For a quick shortcut and some added flavor we marinated the asparagus spears in a little Italian dressing (my favorite is Ken’s Italian with Aged Romano) and tossed ’em on the grill with the tilapia fillets.
This really is becoming one of my favorite summer meals because it honestly quick, simple, delicious and healthy. Plus, it’s affordable and very mild in taste which makes it a likable and popular choice. To make sure you’re staying on the healthy side, here are some quick tips when shopping for Tilapia:
- try to choose tilapia sourced from the best possible areas.
- Some of the best choices include fish sourced from Canada, The Netherlands, United States, Peru, or Ecuador.
- If you can find it, wild-caught is the best. Alternatively, salmon would make a great replacement in this recipe if you cannot find tilapia available.
- You can always pop in and check out the selections of sustainable wild-caught fish at Sea To Table.
Make Light & Quick Grilled Tilapia Recipe with asparagus
Rub both sides of the fillets with olive oil and then season with coarse salt, pepper, a dash of smoky paprika, and some fresh thyme leaves, if desired.
Additionally, you might grab your tongs and use them to rub your grill rack with a paper towel that’s been dipped in olive oil. Most fish fillets are delicate and this sometimes helps them to stop from tearing when flipping.
Season Your TilaPia Fillets Before Grilling
Rub your asparagus spears with olive oil + salt + pepper, or you can try a quick flavorful shortcut like we did. Dip them in a little Italian marinade (your favorite brand) and then place them on the grill.
Tip: if you want the thicker/tougher bottoms ends or stalks of the asparagus to cook out nice and tender, take a potato peeler and peel halfway downward. Do this once around each one. In addition to helping with the texture, it actually helps them cook more evenly.
grill Tilapia Fish until cooked through on both sides
Place the tilapia fillets and the asparagus on a hot grill to cook for about 4 or 5 minutes per side, flipping them once in between.
Asparagus should be done when slightly softened and tips have a little char from the grill.
Serve with fresh thyme and a squeeze of lemon
When cooked through, remove your grilled tilapia fillets and asparagus from the grill and place on a platter. Sprinkle with more fresh thyme leaves or chopped parsley, if desired.
Serve this easy grilled tilapia recipe on a bed of fresh steamed rice or short pasta. This quick orzo salad would also make a great pair! Now top it off with a fresh squeeze of lemon juice and that’s it! You’re jet set with a light and tasty grilled summer dinner.
