We have to give the men of the Night’s Watch a little saucy backbone out there so that they might better withstand the night’s cold, laugh a few things off, and muster up the courage they need to get through the long night… 

Their oath is a lifelong promise and it’s no light task taking on the safety of the Seven Kingdoms while guarding the realms of men.

Time is running out and the Night King grows more powerful by the minute, raising his army of the dead…

The men on the Wall will need a few fortified sips of this easy Night’s Watch cocktail made with spiced rum and inky black wine for good cheer and courage—especially if they are to take Wildlings or White Walkers down on frigid cold nights.  

As Tyrion Lannister says, “Everything is better with some wine in the belly.” 

A Dark Elegant Game of Thrones Halloween Cocktail with Spiced Rum and Inky Wine

Whether you’re hosting a festive Halloween party, hosting a Game of Thrones watch party or simply catching up on your favorite Game of Thrones episodes (or the latest House of the Dragon episodes) this easy Game of Thrones Night’s Watch drink recipe is a MUST to have in hand.  There’s no better way to watch the battle for the Iron Throne unravel.

Be sure to serve this easy Game of Thrones-themed cocktail as a festive Halloween cocktail with rum that you can pour up for all your guests at a fun costume party.  It truly is the perfect cocktail for all you Game of Thrones fans out there that like smooth rum cocktails (or even a festive movie themed cocktail) with a little something extra.

To Make A Festive Halloween Night’s Watch Game of Thrones Cocktail You’ll Need:

• Triple berry preserves or blackberry preserves – will be using a little bit of this in place of simple syrup.  Use a high quality preserves and don’t overcook them in the microwave.  10 to 13 seconds is enough to make it soft (not completely melted).  Stirring in the warm bowl will melt them the rest of the way to a nice saucy consistency after removal from the micro.  Immediately transfer to the cocktail shaker after melted. Do not let sit.  This quickly doubles as our sweetener/syrup but with bolder more concentrated berry flavor.  It really helps the wine wake up along with a hint of lemon.
• Inky dry red wine – use a decent dry red wine.  I used an inexpensive Italian Montepulciano D’Abruzzo which I picked up at my local Trader Joe’s by Villa Cerrina.  Use your best judgement in finding an inexpensive, dry but inky red wine. This style of wine tends to boast notes of violet flower and dark berry. A perfect marriage for the other ingredients in our Game of Thrones Halloween cocktail.  Fruity reds such as Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah, or Malbec may also be used if something similar to the wine I recommended is not available.
• Good quality spiced rum – such as Captain Morgan, Sailor Jerry, or The Kraken black spiced rum
• Fresh lemon – we’ll need the fresh juice from a wedge of lemon that we can squeeze into the cocktail
• A bottle of hard apple cider –  I used Angry Orchard hard apple cider for a delicious fruity fizz. This will complement the red wine, rum, and berry flavors perfectly.

To Melt Preserves for the Sparkling Apple Cider Rum Cocktail

Scoop up the preserves and place in the microwave for 10 to 13 seconds in a small glass bowl. Remove from the microwave and stir with bar spoon immediately after.  Preserves will turn to a saucy consistency with the heat from the glass bowl.  Use a bar spoon or mini spatula to transfer preserves directly to the bottom of your cocktail shaker.

How To Make the Night’s Watch Game of Thrones Halloween Cocktail

Add melted preserves to the bottom of your cocktail shaker and splash in the dry red wine.  

Add Spiced Rum to the Halloween Cocktail

Splash in the spiced rum and squeeze in the juice from a wedge of lemon.  Top off your cocktail shaker about three quarters of the way with fresh ice and cover.  Shake very vigorously for about 10 to 20 seconds so that ice may crush a bit inside the shaker. This will combine ingredients with wine and rum as you shake. 

Strain The Night’s Watch Cocktail and Top Off with Sparkling Apple Cider

Place one or two cubes of cocktail ice (or one sphere of frozen cocktail ice) in a rocks glass. Strain the cocktail into your glass.  Top off this easy spiced rum Halloween Game of Thrones cocktail with sparkling hard cider for fruity apple flavor and a delicious sparkling finish.

Garnish with Fresh Lavender, Fresh Sage, or Blackberries

Garnish this easy hard cider cocktail with lavender sprigs, edible chrysanthemums, sage leaves, or skewered blackberries.  Serve immediately, serve cold.

I knew I wanted to pick ingredients for this Game of  Thrones mixed drink that were delicious, natural, and familiar to the men of the Night’s Watch in this time period.  So as you can see, the ingredients are made from natural elements. Stuff like fruit, grapes, and fortified/distilled spirits (and finished with garnishes of fragrant flowers or herbs). 

Enjoy this festive Halloween party Game of Thrones cocktail responsibly ! It’s pretty much 100% boozy ingredients which have been cleverly balanced out.  

Wine, rum, and hard cider.  The combination is a fruity, sparkling, sippable cocktail, but it’ll getcha!  

Having said that, I just couldn’t have made my festive Halloween cocktail for the rangers, Jon Snow, and rest of the men on the Night’s Watch any less boozy!  They deserve every last drop. They earned it.
