This easy Mardi Gras punch has all the flavors of traditional Mardi Gras drinks similar to the Hurricane cocktail.

A typical signature New Orleans Hurricane cocktail will usually have a mix of light rum, dark rum, and tropical flavors. They’ll usually get it from added hints of passion fruit puree, citrus juices, and grenadine or maraschino cherry.

Here I’ve kept things simple creating a more budget-friendly punch recipe using just one dark rum. If you would like to keep things more traditional (like in the original New Orleans hurricane drink), you can split up the cups of dark rum. Split them into part light rum and part dark rum.

For example, 1 cup light rum, such as Bacardi white rum, and 1 and 1/4 cup dark rum. Both will still work well in the recipe.

Open the can of sliced pineapple and pour into a medium to large punch bowl. They’ll stay sitting at the bottom of the punch but continue to infuse and add flavor to the drink, as you stir and serve.
Using a handheld citrus press, squeeze in the juice of one whole lemon, the juice of one whole lime, and the juice of one whole fresh orange.
Next, splash in the passion fruit juice, the pure pineapple juice, cranberry juice, guava juice, and simple syrup.
Give everything a gentle stir to combine and splash in the 2 and 1/4 cups of dark rum.
Top with 1 to 2 cans of sparkling water as desired and give one more gentle stir to combine.
To adjust sweetness, if needed, add more fresh lime or lemon juice. If on the dry or tart side, add more simple syrup by the tablespoon to taste, until desired balance is reached.
Finish by floating thin sliced wheels of fresh lemon, orange, and lime on top of the punch. Dot the floating fruit with slices of maraschino cherry.
To serve your festive Mardi Gras punch recipe with rum, fill punch cups individually with fresh ice and ladle in the punch. Top with fresh citrus slices and cherries. Serve very cold.
