Ingredients to Make a Festive Red 4th of July Rum Drink

  • Dark rum – I used The Kraken dark spiced rum for extra character and bold spiced rum flavor, but plain light rum works just as well.
  • Mint leaves – fresh vibrant green mint leaves
  • Strawberries – for muddling in the cocktail shaker and garnishing
  • Lime juice – freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Simple syrup – to balance the citrus and the sweetness in the cocktail
  • Cranberry juice – I used Langer’s cranberry juice for bold garnet red color that celebrates the 4th of July in festive style
  • Sparkling water – or club soda for added fizz to top off our Red Fireworks Mojito with a bit of pop and fizz. Lime flavored La Croix also works nicely for topping off this summer rum cocktail

Cut the top off of a large ripe strawberry and cut it into quarters. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the strawberry chunks and 8 to 10 fresh mint leaves that have been freshly pulled from their stem. Muddle everything with a muddler until crushed and fragrant.
Set the muddler aside and splash in the rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and cranberry juice.
Fill the shaker about three-quarters of the way with ice and cover. Shake everything together until completely chilled through.
Using a cocktail strainer, strain the rum mixture into a tall glass over fresh ice.
