A Fresh cocktail REcipe With Simple Ingredients

easy whiskey sour recipe

You don’t need to have a whole bottle of sour mix on hand in order to make a delicious whiskey sour cocktail. In order to yield delicious results in this (or any) cocktail, all you need to do is create balance among the flavors within the drink. To do that, you’ll add an acid, a sweetener, a spirit, and a mixer.

In this case, we’ll copy the same formula once again, using an acid (lemon juice), a sweetener (simple syrup), a spirit (bourbon), and a mixer (fresh crushed blueberries and some fresh-squeezed orange juice).

Prepare these, shake over ice, and strain for a fresh homemade whiskey sour infused with delicious fruity flavor!

What’s THe Best Whiskey for a Whiskey SOur?

I personally recommend a bourbon whiskey for whiskey sour cocktails. There’s something so satisfying about the well-rounded flavors that a good bourbon boasts. Bourbon encompasses a broad variety of notes and aromas that lean towards vanilla, caramel, spice, and so many more characteristics. It produces an overall natural sweetness on the palate that helps build up the classic whiskey sour cocktail into something special.

With that being said, there are so many great bourbons out there! Who could even begin to choose? Among a few solid go-to brands that you can find just about anywhere are:

  • Bulleit Bourbon
  • Four Roses
  • Buffalo Trace
  • Knob Creek
  • Maker’s Mark

To mix this easy whiskey sour recipe flavored with fresh citrus and ripe blueberries, you’ll need 5 basic ingredients.

Whiskey Sour Ingredients

How To Make a Blueberry Whiskey Sour

easy bourbon cocktail recipe with fresh blueberries

Drop the fresh blueberries into the bottom of a cocktail shaker and muddle.  Muddle the blueberries, piercing through the skin until flesh and juices are released and berries are completely crushed.
Splash in the fresh lemon juice and the fresh-squeezed orange juice.

Splash in the simple syrup and the bourbon into the same cocktail shaker with blueberries and juices.
Fill the cocktail shaker about halfway with fresh ice cubes and cover.

Shake the cocktail vigorously and thoroughly for about 20 to 30 seconds until the cocktail is ice-cold and completely chilled all the way through.

Using a cocktail strainer, strain the cocktail over fresh cubes of ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with a skewer of fresh blueberries and sliced orange.
Serve immediately and enjoy very cold.

If you like your whiskey sour zestier and on the dry side, add more fresh lemon and enjoy.  If you prefer it on the fruity side, prepare as is, adding more blueberries and/or syrup to taste as desired.
